Nanobag

Is a shopping bag technology? Well, this one, Nanobag, was featured in Wired magazine, so I am pretty sure that it is! On that basis, I am featuring it here on my blog.

I’ve had shopping bags in the past that fold into themselves to a small form factor, but the Nanobag suggested that it took that to another level. The issue I had with other solutions was that they weren’t actually that small when folded and, when opened out, weren’t large enough to hold an LP record.

Choices

The Nanobag comes in several sizes, as illustrated in the graphic lovingly lifted from the Nanobag site below. I opted for the sling, as I find other bags slip off my slopey shoulders, and put in my order.

The bag arrived without any fanfare and, as you can see from the image at the top, is tiny when packed, and definitely small and light enough to comfortably fit in a jeans pocket and become part of your EDC. It pulls open easily and is big – certainly big enough to take a record which was one of the objectives – and strong enough to hold plenty of heavy shopping, although it does then cut in to your shoulder a bit.

I have been really impressed with the size when packed compared to the size when opened out and is certainly better in this regard than anything I’ve had before – so much so that I now carry it with me all the time and is, obviously, far more useful for being available. They aren’t cheap, I paid £15 for the sling edition in boring blue, but for me it has been worth every penny.
