Actually, I did try and fix the underlying causes of the problem but in the end I decided that it was just going to be easier to start again and be more selective on what I install. However, I did find my day was lightened somewhat by the chuckle I had at the "I took IE off then couldn't download its replacement" comment. Seems your aversion to Microsoft products is becoming a phobia... Perhaps the experience could have included one additional lesson learnt... 4) Sometimes its quicker (and more educational) to fix the fault rather than trash the lot and rebuild.
